I absolutely feel the same. It seems that BMW may be developing a bit more of a purist's car. I was interested in the M4, but even though it will likely be pretty, I have a feeling it's going to be bloated and more concentrated on luxury than performance. The M2 is going to be light and nimble with plenty of power. If it looks good (lose that horrible roundness of the 1 series) then you can pretty much sign me up now.

No LSD on this, maybe an e-diff

Think of this as the 235is

An I6 for the M2 would be sick or a tri-turbo I4... Or a 4 for the M2 and a 6 for the M2GC

I like turbo + manual and NA + DCT

A Z2M would be cool too

There will be no 235i? Uhhh that IS what the m235i IS.. Just it has the 'm' in front for wank, and so they don't feel so bad that it performs better than older m cars lol

The M235i here looks like the xDrive version. Note how the front wheels pull it out of the u-turn.

You think the M235i will start at around $50k? That's significantly more than the current base price of a 135i/135is and even more expensive than the base price of the 1M when it was new.

So they can charge more for the coupes.

Check out a base A4 vs. A5 and you will see what BMW has been missing out on...more of a premium can be demanded for a higher number.

My guess is that the M2 will start right around 50K. IIRC, the 1M was like 47K in the US without any options. M2 will demand an increase in that pricing, but I don't think that BMW would want to break the psychological 50K barrier as a starting point. This is supposed to be the "affordable" M car line after all.

M235 will probably be 43K to start and be right around 50K with the options most people get.

So you can get a stripper M2 or a relatively decked out M235 for around 50K..at least that's my bet.

Your price estimates are in line with what I'm thinking they may be as well. I imagine a 228i will probably start around the 38K mark as well.

I think you're probably right--a 228 might not be a bad option, considering with a mild tune you can approach 300 BHP that you get from the N55 now.

It will be interesting to see how much more aggressive they make the M235 look in comparison as well...if the 228 looks very similar, might be something to consider...

seeing how the 128i starts at 32k(now, when I got it it was 28,500 i believe) thats a big price hike o_0.

personally I'm hoping 34k for 228i and 42k for M235i

I concur, the 1 series was the last ground breaking model IMHO.

32k for the 228
39k for the M235i

Offer tons of options and really great standard equipment.

Don't price yourself above the new S3 or the CLA45.

Drop the sport line/modern line/etc nonsense also.

6cyl, the m2 will come out using the upgraded n55 motor featuring 355hp claimed even when we know it will be closer to 370hp, leaving the m235i to use the original n55 315hp but really closer to 330hp
