230i recalls

Strange coincidence the other day when my upper coolant hose and expansion tank hose burst, I also got a call from BMW about a recall. Is it normal for BMW to text about recalls, at first I thought it was spam.
They claim there is a recall on coolant vent line on the cylinder head. These coolant issues with BMWs have me concerned as I went out of warranty last year.

Could these issues be related? They also stated no loaners which is a pain considering it is an all day job.
I don't know if I am just venting or hoping there is hope BMW can make these cars more reliable in the cooling systems (previously owned E46 and and E70 with similar issues).
thank you

The recall is true. I'm at the service center now. Brought him in for an oil change.
I was never notified prior.

Angry

I got the recall done today, replace cylinder head vent line. The dealer said they would evaluate the $1000 repair I had done two weeks ago for the same line (at least the recall is addressing a real issue). The car was left stranded on a highway and the emergency repair was performed at a non-BMW shop.
They did not evaluate , they put on the new hose and kept the recent new hose for BMW evaluation? So my $1000 repair is replaced and gone! The dealer said BMW denied my request for a refund. Does anyone else feel this is ridiculous? Is there a good way to contact BMW?
thank you

Go https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if there's a recall that covers you issue.

Had this done during a dealer visit for another reason two weeks ago. No prior notice. I was told it was SI B17 01 21.

Do you know if this applies to all 230i's. Googled that recall notice number and something from 2020 came up but that wasn't relevant to the 230i. Thanks !

I don't know if it applies to all 230i's. But there is a service for cylinder head vent line that applies to my 2018 230i. According to my local dealer, the reason I was not/have not been notified is that BMW is experiencing a supply chain issue with parts. The service writer said that as soon as the part became available, I should get a notice. There is no recall notice in the vehicle profile section of my BMW My Garage account.

Additionally, for me, the service writer said that for my vehicle, there was no update or fix available for the 3G issue and I would lose (appear to have already lost) RTTI for example. That's particularly frustrating.

Thank you of the reply.
My situation was an emergency repair for the parts in the recall and then the recall was performed the following week. They replaced the new parts that were working fine and told me I could not be refunded.
When I talked with BMW they said the NHTS requires them to perform the replacement. So I am out the repair cost.

Mine went 2 weeks ago, left me stranded.
Called the dealer and was told it was out of warranty (72000 miles), so arranged for my own tow to the dealer.
At the dealer was told CPO warranty was still good till Jan 23 or 99999 miles.
Since it appears to be a real issue, I'm going to try and recover the towing charge.
Wish me luck.

Just checked the NHTSA recall site....nothing appeared for my '19 230i xDrive. Does anyone know more specifics about what model years and versions the recall relates to? My BMW was just in yesterday to the dealer for an inspection but nothing was disclosed/mentioned at that time. Thanks!

At NHTSA nothing appeared for my 230i either. When I spoke to my local dealer I asked him about open recalls and said the words "cylinder head vent line". He then told me that when the part became available I should get a notice. But I had to say the magic phrase "cylinder head vent line".

Had this replaced for $800 at a local BMW shop. Knew nothing about the recall... gRrrr. The CPO on my 17' ended in December as far as I know.

Now it appears that at the very least, my valve cover is leaking oil. It's thrown a code for a cylinder lean condition, I assume due to the valve cover, I wasn't driving it when the original coolant pipe issue occurred, so I'm not sure how the overheat process went or how far they drove with the message up.

Anyone know of a how-to on DIY replacing the B48 valve cover gasket ? was getting oil build up in the 2 and 3 injector wire connector area.

Did find this one for the B58:

Hoping this hasn't ruined the car. I wanted to like this car, it's peppy, but I haven't had a good BMW since my 99 328.

The dealer informed me that the warranty had expired at 72,000 miles, so I arranged for my own tow to the dealer. At the dealer, I was advised that the CPO warranty was still valid until January 23rd, or 99999 miles.
I'm going to attempt to recoup the towing fee since there looks to be a genuine problem.

not a recall but a 'service call'

which is probably why you won't be able to find any recall notice,

just was at the dealer earlier this week, about to have warranty expire in one month, and wanted them to do a check up which they wanted $199......

I have a 2018 230i with just over 40k miles.

The other day I was driving 40 miles or so to my destination, and in the last mile of the trip, I got a coolant low message. Pulled up to my destination and noticed a leak, checked coolant level and it was empty. Luckily my mechanic is right down the road from where I was driving, so got it towed and repaired (cost $800). Now I’m just reading about the service action on this thread.

Can I get my money back or any sort of reimbursement from BMW? I was not aware this problem existed. The dealer never notified me. My car is out of warranty.

I guess, are dealers/BMW even required to notify you if it’s not a recall but just a service action? Additionally, my local dealer seemed to indicate it was a recall, but I don’t think that’s the case.
