Did you have 18 inch run flats? If yes, that might be the issue. I also live in NJ and find the optional Michelin PSS's to have a very comfortable (but firm and sporty) ride.
I did. They were awful. Hard riding and brittle. Didn't want to carry a spare or take the chance of getting stranded. It's always Sunday when I get a flat.
