I think dashes are going digital because manufacturing has caught up to the point where it's cheaper to make a digital dash than to make an analog dash. I don't think there is any other reason for the change. Why are the hands and indexes faked if people really preferred digital? Why not just show numeric values?

a digital dash is definitely not cheaper than an analog dash.

I could be wrong because I have no idea how much an analog dash is to produce but production costs on digital displays on electronics such as phones have come down to a few dollars per display. Also (I'm guessing), quality assurance testing, "calibration", and installation is probably less demanding for digital displays. A lot of industries are replacing analog with digital because of costs and so I guess I could have jumped to a conclusion there about the car dash too.

Last edited by fullstack; 06-12-2017 at 03:59 PM.. Reason: replacing analog with digital and not vice versa

I'm thinking the LED lights must be cheaper for BMW to produce compared to HID.

I will miss the glass globe in the HID headlights.

I can't imagine a Breitling Navitimer with digital needles. The real thing just exudes more class.

RIP to Glacier Silver According to the 2018 pricing guide, it is not available for the M240 or the 230 with M Sport Package. So much for my plans to order Glacier Silver with Coral Red interior.

Wow, you're right. Instead of expanding the choice of colours, it's down to 1 non-metallic (300 Alpine White) and 6 metallics:
475 Black Sapphire Metallic
A75 Melbourne Red Metallic
A96 Mineral White Metallic
B39 Mineral Grey Metallic
B45 Estoril Blue Metallic
C1X Sunset Orange Metallic

That's crazy.

I'm wondering the same thing, I was going to order one yesterday from my dealer but he said I'd have to come in and order it, I didn't even think about the 719's not being available so didn’t ask, he's away on holiday until next Sunday so I'll ask him then about the wheels, for me it's a deal breaker if I can't have them

I've asked my dealer the same, this was news to him too. He was going to look into it and come back to me. Is you dealer offering you any deals on the LCI model?

He hasn't mentioned money yet, but if I don't get at least £5k off I won't be buying it, I think they will be giving a fair discount, pretty sure the M140i kept the same sort of discounts after LCI as before

I may be getting one of the first 2018 M240's in the U.S. My first order (2017 M240) was delivered to Galveston, Texas on May 30 but the car's roof was crushed in the car transport truck during delivery to Little Rock. A new car (2018) was ordered on June 13 and to my surprise, I just learned that Start of Build for the car was yesterday (June 19). I don't have any other schedule dates for it yet.

Congrats! The dealerships I've been working with still don't have allocations.

It has to do with the super low take-rate, the least chosen of them all.

So for all that have Silver enjoy your Rare Colour
