Exhaust tips pitted

Popular discussion i know but the tips on my m235i are pitted and i want to clean and seal them with C5 but ive used metal polish etc but just seems to take the black chrome finish off completely?

*dont worry tried it on a test spot*

anyone ever got them back to an ok condition and with what products.

tried autosol
wheel cleaner
APC
iron remover
glue and tar remover

any tips would help greatly

Take them off and get them powder coated black, ours are the same on the 235, they have lost the gloss finish, done this on a few cars and its perfect

Getting our done next week....£20 is a perfect fix.

Mine went the same and i have just had them replaced under warranty, its a general problem .....

I had the same and took them off (pretty easy to do); cleaned them up; sanded; and re-sprayed them in matt black Halfords Very High Temp aerosol paint. Just under £8/can.



Seems to be fine. I don't claim they look particularly special but actually, I'm fine with them being understated.



It seemed to me that gloss is always going to be a problem to keep shiny, especially in wet UK weather. So I conceded that matt is probably a realistic compromise. I had considered red (to match the panoply of tail lights/reflectors) or 'M' blue-blue-red, but life's too short to speding too much time on this!
