M2 limited production or not?
What are the latest rumors? Will this be limited release like 1M? Is it generally expected that they will be hard to come by and have large dealer surcharges? Expected release date?

Production may be limited by sales. How many more 1Ms do you think they really could have sold? A couple thousand?

I agree, this will be an enthusiasts car, I doubt it will sell in high numbers especially if it’s £10k/$15k more than an M235i which is what seems to be the case in the UK with discounts, I’m sure it will be less in the US as we always seem to pay more

I read somewhere that M boss Nitschke, before he left, said the M2 would not be a limited production car; but, it would be hard to get one. To me that means if you want an M2 you'll get one; however, you'll have to wait for it. But why?
Speculation: Could it be that BMW will only produce M2s after a set number have been pre-purchased by customers? Since all 2 series cars (including the M2) are, I think, produced on the same assembly line, that line is likely very busy with popular, stock, 2 series cars. From an efficiency standpoint, it seems to make sense to produce 100 M2,s at once, rather than trying to build one or two at a time, disrupting the line each time with parts/procedures peculiar to the M2. . |

They need to do that in order to keep their clean air average acceptably low. Only then were they allowed to build an M2 polluter. In essence, BMW has to sell X number of non polluters before you get your M2 polluter. |

BMW should just discontinue the frankly boring M235 and make the M2 the proper M car in the lineup. Leave the 228 as is for the 'entry' range. That way there will be no production issues and the the M2 will get plenty of sales.
