M2 werkstestwagen spotted...
A friend of mine Genro757 vp of M Flight was over at ///M GmbH a few days ago... he took these pics, of the M2 test mule. In talking with some my bmw sources, it's an really old test mule with the velcro'd on fender flares from the M235iRacing. Still... its cool to see.
On another note... everytime I drive by ///M HQ... I always see some tasty Audi RS models parked. Me thinks ///M is doing their homework on getting all the small details right on the newest, sportiest M2. The latest M2 prototypes are only being tested late at night under the cover of darkness and locked away by daylight. Current prototypes have four pipe exhaust system, flared front and rear fenders - not tacked on body panels.

Someone needs to get in there Mission Impossible style. Actually tbh I'm not so concerned with how they style the thing. The 1M turned the frumpy looking 1 series into a beast, so I'm sure with the already great looking 2 series, the M2 will be a killer. Now what they bring to the table as a full package is what I'm wondering about. And at what price.
Can't wait. Enough mules. Give us the full stallion! I was hoping much like Roundel editor-in-chief Satch Carlson that BMW would surprise the world with a concept M2 at the LA Auto Show, but sadly as he suspected... nope. haha I think I might have ditched work instead of waiting for Saturday, just to go during the week to see that.

I think this is the longest we have gone without any real news, updates or sightings The wait is horrible, made worse by the fact the awesome M3 is available right now!!

@Scott26 is right... the X5M / X6M twins have just debuted in LA. Let them soak up the lime light. What I think is interesting about the latest M SAV's is they have new interiors. I think it's a fair bet the M2 will have upgraded seats and a higher quality materials than the regular 2er. Much unlike the 1M.
Also... for the past few months... I always see X4 / X3's being tested at ///M GmbH. And since its rumored that the M2 will share its engine with the X3M & X4M, I think those are the next cars that we will see being tested. The M2 still has a long way, in its testing digestion phase. This coming Spring/Summer - is the time we will see M2 sightings ramp up. So, I suspect.

Rumor goes that the M2 and X4 M40i will feature the same engine (N55B30T0).

The rear flares will be like the M4's wide hips. We have not seen any prototypes with production front fenders. We have to be patient and wait. More M2 prototype pics here... http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1014080

For a functional reason the M3 fenders are more "flared" than those of the M4:
"You might think that the BMW M3 and M4 are the same car, and for all practical intents and purposes, you would be correct. But I'll let you in on a little secret. While the underbits are basically the same, they're wearing very different dresses. See, the M4 has a wider body and some aero deficiencies compared to the M3, so it gets a special carbon fiber trunk. Woo. Hoo.We heard through the grapevine that the M2 will get a wider track than the M235i. Wider track = flared fenders are a bare necessity. Hence, I think (and hope) that the fenders of the M2 will be more similar to the F80 M3 fenders than to the ones of the M4. M2 test mules:

It's interesting to see these "zebras" now, knowing how the M2 turned out to be in it's final form.
