''13-128 or '14-228
I went to the dealer to look at 228"s on the lot to finalize my build on a new car.
However, in the showroom was a 2013 128, 6spd auto, black exterior, boston leather interior, and I think the door sill read LIMITED EDITION and other options I wasn't considering on my 2014 build. My question is how nice are these 230hp 3.0 liter in line six engines? Gas mileage and horsepower lag behind the 2014 turbo-engine. I loved the look of the 2013 (128) and the price for this potential daily-driver could be a great buy for me. Any insight on these 128's would help me very much. TIA Scott |

The 128i is a great driving little car without a turbo. If you want a long term car the 128 will probably be much more reliable. It also doesn't have the electronic steering so steering feel is much better.
The 228 is faster and much better looking. So do you want reliability or speed? Your choice. |

I havent seen any issues with the n20 so you cant say that the n52 is more reliable
I can list a shit load of issues on the n52 but of course is nothing major

It's the last NA engine BMW made. It could be a classic. But, I would take the 228i in a quick second over the 128i.

I just traded in a 2012 128 for my 228i Msport. The 228 is much better looking, has a nicer interior and is a good bit faster. The 128 has that wonderful n52 inline six and makes much better sounds than the turbo four. Steering is a little bit better on the 128,not major better but slightly better feel. Oh, the zf auto in the 228 is a major improvement over the gm steptronic in the 128. The 228 gets better mpg. I was getting 20-21 mpg in my128, I'm getting 25-26 in my 228. I traded because I wanted a manual trans. Both are great cars, you'll be happy with either one.
