How often do you wash your car??
Out of curiosity: how often do you guys wash your car?? I'm pretty obsessive when it comes to having a clean car.
I'm probably good for one wash a week during the winter and two a week in the spring and summer.

Pretty ocb here, twice a week on winter time.

clear coat are much more sturdier than that. However, excessive washing does lead to potential swirls on the clear coat, but it doesn't deteriorate the clear coat. A polisher on the other hand will "sand" down the clear coat. But with good washing techniques, the risk of swirls can be dramatically reduced.

I got a monthly wash plan at this automatic car wash that does a mix of brush and spray. The car comes out shiny as hell, but I can see the swirling. Anything I *should* do about that? Its not a big bother, but I'm kinda ocd.

ya you "should" not go through the automatic car wash
or at least go through a touchless one else you can do a fine polish every once in a while to get the swirls out but you are eating on the coat every time you polish |

Touchless car wash once every 3 weeks. Home wash and spray on wax once a month. Full professional detail about every 8 months or so. This is a 2 year ownership for me so I don't waste too much time on the cleaning, but looks good with my current routine.

Once a week. Hand car wash on opposite corner of my intersection does $10 before 10am. Live in city so can't wash myself. Once a month do a couple of coats of wax myself afterwards.

Best to get it clean and clayed, and lay down 2-3 layers of fine paste. Then apply 2-3 layers of some good spray on wax [I do like the Griots Spray on Wax as it last nicely] as sacrifice barriers on top of the paste.
Then when washing, as its wet, add the Spray Wax while wet and dry it off. The sacrifice barriers take the abuse and paste protects the top coat. Not really much more work, but keeps it from having swirls in top coat. Any swirls that develop, and there will be with excessive washing/drying will only swirl the wax and that can be buffed out quickly for better results. Just a thot. |
