My M235i: BMW M-Performance Exhaust & aFe Intake!
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Had a fun day getting the BMW M-Performance exhaust and the aFe Intake installed. Some pictures: No tips installed. Just the muffler. Just the tip . Installed! aFe Intake Installed: Of course the video! -- Stationary Revving: -- Short interior and exterior shot: -- Cold start and revving: -- Driving around with the GoPro microphone hooked up near my exhaust: I'll probably do a dyno next week to see if it picked up anything. This might be a stupid question, and you may not have the answer, but I was thinking about the intake but not digging the metal badge on it. Something you could remove easily? Possible to get without? I will email them tomorrow but interested to hear your thoughts since you have the thing physically in front of you.

Gotcha. I guess with a little touch up paint on the rivets or whatever you'd never notice it. Not the end of the world obvs, I'm not opening my hood every day. Thanks for the info!

I just installed my M Performance exhaust as well, these videos just don't do it justice, once you get a couple hundred miles on it, it has a nice throaty exotic gargling sound. No overt droning when cruising and a nice pop when the car shifts, really underrated sound-wise in videos. BMW did a great job with the sound.

Jealous indeed!! This may have been answered, please forgive though. Is this the 135i rear section muffler? If so then it just fits up with no problem?
Thanks for clarification... |

I don't think its the same since the 135 has two tips close together and the 235 has them far apart like the 335. |

New aFe Intake
Went on aFe site and confirm this does fit our M235i:
aFe 51-82202 Momentum Cold Air Intake System for BMW 335i L6-3.0L (Turbo) N55 Engine Really don't like open filters in the engine bay, and never a oil based air filter again. This 51-82202 gives me what I want for a performance intake, enclosure and dry filter. I ordered just now and the JB4 Stage 1 a couple days ago. Will go and get a baseline dyno run on Tuesday to see what power my tuners dyno is showing. Expecting to be close to what your base was, at least I'm hoping |

Last piece for me would be an FMIC, but I haven't seen any other companies make one that fit yet except for Wagner. I'd go with them, but they only make it in black. |

pardon my ignorance but where does the air come from in the CAI if the black housing is blocking it?

There is more than enough airflow around the intake that would be forced under the hood for intake purposes, the housing is to help reduce heat soak from the engine in warmer months and overall.
I can't wait to see DP/M exh and intake with the JB4 map2 #'s. I'm going to wait till after 1200mi service and Justin seems to be a bit crazier with wanting to go balls out right away, really interested in seeing dyno numbers. If the baseline run is that good modded numbers are going to get real interesting pretty quickly. |

I called today to setup my base Dyno run on Monday. Will post the sheet later that night. Be interesting to see in my numbers match up. The tuner has a Dynojet 224x dynomometer rated for 1000 HP per roller (AWD Dyno). The weather should be mid 70's in the garage with 50% humidity so the base line should be good. Will have them do the Air/Fuel check using an exhaust gas analyzer as well. Hope for 300+HP / 310+ Torque to the wheels.
Need intake and JB4 Stage 1 coming later on in the week and will do the second Dyno run with them installed. I really hope the JB4 Stage 1 lives up to it's advertisment; else I will be looking for a refund |

My other cars have a lot of torque, so i am just trying to get that same "feel" lol. The car isn't as fast, but that instant torque down low makes it pretty intoxicating and its fun to document this stuff .
I'm sure you will get better numbers since you have better gas lol. |

OP, I get the BMW M-Performance exhaust. An evil and narley sound but why the aFe intake? All it does is suck in hot air. IMO, it just made your ride slower.

Maybe in super hot weather it would, right now it won't be, also with a JB4 stage 2 the intake should help him quite a bit as other dyno charts prove it does almost nothing or very little without a tune, however with it provides a nice increase.

If it did make it slower, then all the intake dynos would show it, but they all show some type of gain to be had. However, if you look at the intake, there is a box around so its enclosed to cool air when the hood is closed. Also, as cmkde mentioned, it should help at the higher boost levels with the JB4 since it'll allow more air to move through.

Who's data? The mfg promoting the dual intakes or in this case, afe? C'mon, the laws of physics changes for no man.
