According to the poll on the M2 engine of choice that we had a few months back and which drew 500 votes, almost 85% of potential M2 buyers would disagree and prefer an I6

I'd rather have an I6 myself. Besides from that article above, he even points that it'll probably won't be an I4, more than likely an I6.

I want the M2 to come to fruition. 2 years from now is my target for a new car, while I'm leaning towards the M4 right now, I'd rather spend less coin and be in an M2.

Regarding a 4 cylinder M car the article I posted said, "Not in the near future, But it's possible. Our engines are modular."

To me, I really don't care if it is an I6 or I4 or whatever with turbos/NA...

I am interested in the driving dynamics, first and foremost. This car should have a distinct feel to it, one that is different than an M235...it should be more raw and have less frills...

If they do that, the car will be a huge hit. Like the 1M. And no one will care about the engine at that point...

I agree. It would be nice to have at least one NA M car in the lineup though.

The 1M wheels are basically the CSL style--many aftermarket versions around IIRC....

I'm very worried about the change of my view of the car. I didn't liked the leaked pics of the M235i at the harbor and I didn't liked the pictures of the 2 series from the official launch neither.
But after some time I love it (I stay with the fact it could have looked so much better) and I never had this before so intense.

I have a E8X 1 series hatch which really doesn't look very good (it was a compromise), but I liked it when I bought it, but not so much as the RWD and other technic under the bonnet. Now I like the exterior and interior even less than before.

But in my eyes the 2 series is a very beautiful car, not perfect but nothing is perfect, so what is this sorcery?
So I'm not done with this good looking car, but only a gran coupé/sedan could take the money out of my wallet.

Is there any news on when the new 3-cylinder engine will be available in the 2 series? BMW have confirmed availability of the new engine in the 1 and 3 series within 18 months (in Europe and Australia at a minimum) but I haven't seen anything about the 2 series.
