As the owner of an e36 m345, I give a positive vote. The rear seat works for my kids, and the back doors make it easier to load track tires for weekends...it should be ready about when I can get back to the track.

That render is nice!
I've seen a a lot of people complaining about the new cars being bigger and bigger, and then here we have an E46-size sedan that's lighter and a lot more powerful, how can you dislike it?

Sweet spot
This car is exactly what I want.
The 3 Series is too big for my taste. I have a 2013 125i Hatch, but would trade it in a flash for a 2 series GT. |

Dude, stick to the subject and don't start critisizing typos! In dutch the words are 'even' and 'oneven' so GregD just made a literal translation, even though it's not correct. At least we speak & write more than 1 language

+1 I like the car a lot too!
For me the biggest plus a GC has over a regular 4-door sedan is the frame-less windows! Too bad its still 2 years away, i'd like one by the end of next year..

the #s from september show an increase in US sales of something on the order of SIXTEEN THOUSAND X1s this year over last year to date. not bad for a boxy looking vehicle. http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=896037 6 series (includes gran coupe) up 1600 models (28%) over last year whereas 5 series remains at the same level... and 7 series is up a modest 5%. Look for a boost in 2 series sales of course over 1 series as the new model comes out.. ... and then a continued bump just like the 6 series when the 2 series GC comes out the following year.... This is the 2-series that I've been waiting for.
Not only will it be a good family car, it also looks great and price will be under the 3-series .

Unfortunately, come to my country and you'll see Honda Civic instead; given how much (216i)s am gonna see on the road I already see waaaaaaaay too many base (320i)s driven around.. Sucks the fun out of owning a 335i or an M3 - appearancewise

We have to consider that performance wise this will be the best sedan of the BMW lineup, and the cheapest! Infact if we look at an 550 wich has more power, we have a car that weights so much more than the 2er. Ok it's light years ahead in interior and comfort, but the 235 can outperform it.

Something old, something borrowed and blue? Well not quite. But two out the three do apply to the old 325i series.
BMW what's the point here if you just keep going backwards calling new models based on old models? |

This will be a great car that will complete the line up of small sedans.
I don't understand those who comment in a negative way when a new product is almost ready to be released: for sure that model is not adressed to everyone and it's always much better to have more models available When we look at the good sales of 5 series, 6 GC and seven series, why wouldn't be good to have more models in the lower range? |

I'd get the M235i GC over a F30 Sedan without heasitation. I don't think the F30 is too big, it's just more than I need everyday use. I'll probably hold off getting a second car to see if this actually makes it to production. I seldom carry passengers, but I can admit four doors is more convenient than a coupe.
This car would truly be a hit. And BMW's 2015 can easliy be Spring/Summer 2014. p.s. I'm really happy the headlights don't run into the Kidney Grilles. I'm hoping this happens on the F80's LCI. |

Nomenclature aside: This 2GT is the new 3 series sedan we have been looking for since the E30/E36. (pricewise too). Because the F30 is really an undercover 5 series. They all went up the latter due to the competition in "mine is bigger than yours". As for the name, i am starting to get BMW "illogical" thinking. 1 series will be FWD. 2 series will hopefully remain the smallest BMW RWD. If odd # are sedans based, and even # are coupe based, and GC are sedan based on the even # coupes, then the only solution for us to get the smallest RWD sedan would be in the form of the 2GC. Otherwise you could get the future 1 series (sedan/4door) that is FWD.

The SL appeals to a different customer - it's a completely different style of vehicle (a true grand touring two-seat roadster). Note that the SL sells at a far higher price bracket with notably better margins compared to the 6, and that sales of the SL alone equal the combined sales of the 6 coupe, convertible, and GC. The 6 is a failure for BMW - it is too big, too heavy, too luxurious, and too expensive. It should be repositioned to the E-Class Coupe (also more in line to the original 6) to sell in higher volumes and a dedicated car to take on the SL / top sports car position be created.
