I like the part where the m235i screeches its tires even when driving over gravel.

Long time stalker. First time poster.

I too am excited about the new 2 series. The 220i has very mild styling but so far I've enjoyed what I've seen and read about the M235i. I'm leaning towards Deep Sea Blue with Black leather (and contrast blue stitching if I can get it)

Looking forward to see how BMW position this car against the A45 AMG in Australia in terms of pricing.

The A45 is $75k plus on roads which is aggressively priced (for our market at least). I'm hoping for no more than a $10k premium with similar spec of standard features.

While I love the 1M, there is very little that makes it better than a 135i on the street... in fact nearly nothing. You get the same engine and manual tranny... the better suspension bits and LSD on the street do little to nothing for you. Tires, weight distribution and driven wheels are the biggest determinant in street handling... everything else takes track time to figure out and see big differences in. The electric vs hydraulic steering, N55 motor and that 8 speed tranny with too many gears will be this new car's downfall. Now if there was an M2 with a DCT, hydraulic steering and S55...

The 1M was a bastardized way to a M-Car and should really have been called a M135i rather than what they ended up calling it.

Unique and produced in low numbers but it was really a M Performance Car with a illogical name.

I myself pasted on my first place spot and have no regrets considering the way it was built was just robbing the parts bin of the M3 and nothing else.

This new car is exciting, but hardly as exciting as the M2's arrival.

Don't see how that makes the 1M any different than what the M2 might be? It's not like the M2 is going to get a completely bespoke engine like an S65 or S85. The suspension bits will most likely be the same as M3/4. The only thing that will be different this time is that it'll most likely get DCT and maybe CF roof. What do you expect the M2 to have that no one will have predicted?

first of all, the 1M was an E82, which meant that the bulk of parts were shared with the E90/E92 3-series generation---which meant that they could USE M3 parts bolted onto there. The 1M was a 'frankenstein' type project. You can be assured that the M2 will NOT be a frankenstein project, if it does happen---unless they bolt on 'old' E92 M3 parts again. Most likely, if there is an M2 it will be fully developed this time, instead of the lab-project like development done last time. That could be a good thing....or a bad thing.

IF there is an M2, they cannot use the current generation M3/M4 parts, as they don't share commonality like the prior E82 and E92 did. In fact, the F22 shares MORE parts with the E82/E92 if anything as the chassis design for the F22 is still based on the E82. It's not a totally new chassis....it's a refresh/redux/modification of the E82 chassis design.

I never said anything about using E9x part. I was talking about F80/2/3 parts. While yes I agree that they'll actually have time to "fully" develop the M2 (even though I feel like they did a great job with the 1M), I'm not convinced it'll have 100% bespoke suspension and brake system, rather than shared parts from the next M3/4. IMHO, the only thing they didn't have time to do on the 1M was a bespoke engine (doubt you'll see one in an M2, but I'd love to be proven wrong with some kind of a 4 pot), DCT and CF roof (which I'm sure we'll see on an M2).

Don't get me wrong, I think the M2 is going to be an amazing car. I think it's going to look just as amazing as the M4 concept, but I'm just wondering at what price. The one thing that really attracts me to the 2er is that the entry price is somewhat reasonable, assuming you don't go nuts with the options. How big of a premium will the M2 be? We shall see

the F22 doesn't share a chassis design with the F30/F80 the way the E82 shared the chassis with the E90/E92. That's the difference here. It is unlikely you will ever see F8X M3/M4 parts on the M2. The E82 was unique in that it was essentially identical to the E9X in chassis design. If anything, the F22 is much closer in design to the E8X than any of the 3/4-series designs.

I don't think this is a rendering. If you compare to the spy shots at the dock its pretty damn exact.
I found the same teaser video but its paused at a good spot to see a little of the lines and if you look you can see very similar lines to the supposed rendering.

That's what I thought from all the recent spy photos this one seemed to be pretty spot on

If you look at them side by side the lines of the car are the same. Curious to those who believe this is a rendering what cues in the photo give it away.
