BMW 2 Series Coupe Shows Sleeker Form and We Show You Colors and Wheels Options
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW 2 Series Coupe Shows Sleeker Form and We Show You Colors and Wheels Options As our newest photos show, the 2 Series Coupe (F22) sure has grown up from the current 1 Series Coupe (E82). The 3.1 inch gain in overall length and 1.2 inch longer wheelbase (see dimension/specs comparisons) appears to come mostly in the front, elongating the front end and giving the F22 a sleeker look overall. Adding to this effect is the less bulbous greenhouse which features a more raked window and a rear roofline that has been elongated and joins the trunk on a more subtle angle than on the E82. Production on the 2 Series begins next month and it will have its public auto show debut at the Detroit auto show in mid-January. The 2 Series Coupe will be officially revealed imminently, so stay tuned. Here are the newest photos, together with the previously revealing M235i pics and interior spy photos. Here is a summary to 3 models revealed so far: BMW M235i Power/torque: 240kW @ 5800rpm / 450Nm @ 1300–4500rpm Engine: 2979cc six cylinder turbo (N55B30O0) Weight (unladen): 1455kg (manual), 1470kg (auto) 0–100km/h: 5.0s (manual), 4.8s (auto) 0–1000m: 23.8s BMW 220i Power/torque: 135kW @ 5000rpm / 270Nm @ 1250–4500rpm Engine: 1997cc four cylinder turbo (N20B20U0) Weight (unladen): 1350kg (manual), 1365kg (auto) 0–100km/h: 7.0s 0–1000m: 27.3s (manual), 27.7s (auto) BMW 220d Power/torque: 135kW @ 4000rpm / 380Nm @ 1750–2750rpm Engine: 1995cc four cylinder diesel (N47D20O1) Weight (unladen): 1375kg (manual), 1390kg (auto) 0–100km/h: 7.2s (manual), 7.1s (auto) 0–1000m: 27.5s (manual), 27.4s (auto) Full specs can be seen at http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=898854. And here is a graphical list of the available colors, wheels, and trims (in South Africa). |

Are those taillights LED? Isn't the 4 series using incandescent? Would be odd for the 2 series to have LED, but not the 4 at launch.
Looks good! |

I know one is M235i and the other is standard but the red and gold look completely different shapes to me.
Red looks much sleeker whereas the gold still looks very much like the E82. Last edited by as7920; 10-10-2013 at 10:23 AM.. |

WARNING: biased E82 owner post below. Just an opinion!
that has to be the most boring BMW i've ever seen! seriously glad i didn't wait for this and instead jumped on a 135is. I know a lot of people don't like the E82 styling, but i think it has a lot of character and design built into it---as well as many nods to more 'old school' BMW design. This new F22 looks uninspired to me. If i didn't know this was the new 2-series or didn't see the twin kidney grilles, i honestly couldn't even tell it's a BMW. that's sad, IMO! Hope it performs better than it looks! I'd still be interested in an M2 in a few years, assuming they redesign aspects of it during an LCI or something. Right now it looks soft and too rounded....it's lost all the sharp creases and straight edges! Last edited by IEDEI; 10-10-2013 at 10:47 AM.. |

But looking at these spy pics, the side and rear look exactly like my 128i (non msport). If someone showed me these pics and told me it was an LCI for the 128i I wouldn't be surprised. It just looks like the taillight and rims are different. Now, the front is definitely different, but I can't comment if it's better or worse then what I currently have since it's still heavily camoed Edit: I'm sure you already know, but these pictures are probabaly for an 220i or 228i. From the grilles, it looks to be a modern line trim

wow looks completelly different from the red one! maybe it's the camera that makes the car look a bit blobby just as the current 1er coupe? anyway, both shapes are great on the photos.

what really throws me off though is how rounded everything is. As someone who grew up loving BMW design for its straight lines and sharp edges, this new design language is very different to what i've known BMWs for. Even the E46, which was 'softer' than the E36 still had its fair share of straight lines and definite angles. Everything moves on though...and if this is the evolution of a great car then so be it!!! I will still definitely consider one after my time in this 4 week-old 135is! |

The first set of photos is the standard 220i/228i in modern trim seems like.
The M235i will look much sportier with more flare like any other M Sport package does on any current BMW line. I currently drive an e82 135i, I personally can't wait for the M235i. I think BMW has hit a home run on this one. This is the car all the enthusiasts want. Is it a true M car? Maybe not, but it is really close to one and I'm sure the driving experience will be something special. Everyone who's hating on it is either regretting their 1 series purchase or has no idea how awesome this M235i will be, especially with the LSD option ticked. There's no reason to buy a 435i M Sport unless you're looking for more room and maybe more of a distinguished look. Just my .02 |

lol...nice little nudge there. i definitely do NOT regret my purchase!! i've wanted an E82 for at least 4 years now.....and even if the F22 had already come out i would have still bought an E82 to fulfill what i really wanted. But thanks for trying to make up a story

This looks so much better than the butt ugly E82 front. Could never take that car seriously.
Looks like the designers actually spent time designing the new 2-series. Can't wait to see the full unveil, especially with the full M-sport treatment. |

Wasn't trying to nudge anything towards anyone, sorry if you got butt hurt about it. Wasn't my intention.
Just seeing a lot of criticism for no reason. Granted the 135is is an awesome choice and I can't blame you for picking one up. Congrats and I certainly hope you enjoy it |

do you really think there will be an LSD option? i see no evidence there will be. It's not in the options list published a few days ago----and the M135i doesn't have an LSD option either. Where are you guys getting the info that it will have LSD? |

Either way, in an interview with the M boss awhile back. He said he wrote off the LSD for the M235i to make it available. Whether it's an option or not, is not known. I'm thinking it will be available from the M Performance line like it is on the 4 series. |

I think BMW was listening because it will be available on the M235i and can most likely be retrofitted in the M135i, and possibly other BMW models. If I remember correctly, Dackel or some other mod said the new era of BMW performance parts will be shown in November (as of now it is for the 4 series, but I wouldn't be shocked if they show off the 2 series parts then). I'm hoping for some type of BMW performance seat as well!

Appears to have an overly soft rear 1/4 panel. Hoping the Hofmeister kink brings some aggression to the c-pillar. That was my favorite angle of the E82, tall greenhouse with strong shoulder line.
This car IS beige, but this is just boring. Really hoping this car looks better in person...it simply doesn't evoke the same emotional response as did the E82 during it's reveal, and still does today. If not, I'll be in the market for '13 135is in a few months. |

If they do offer an LSD as an option, would that be the first time in a long time that BMW has offered an LSD on any non-M car? If it does, thats awesome news.
Again, I'm a new 135is owner, so this is obviously biased but I've got to agree with IEDEI. This car does look sleeker, but I think that makes it look more plain, and more like many other cars you already see on the road. The E82 looks a little weird, and I love that about it.
