Thanks so much for sharing, I really want to build a track car in a couple of years, this post really makes me think the 228i is a great foundation for a track car. I watch the pirelli world challenge whenever it is on TV so I look forward to seeing this car in competition one day soon.

@i8ur911
275s did require some fender rolling/pulling for sure. Also, to get the tire/wheel combo to fit the available space we are running different offsets front and rear. @ocN55 We will be getting to tuning on the thread but we are now flash tuning the ECU so we have eliminated the top speed limiter. Here's a little taste of what we have been able to do with the 320i. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1119938 @pruettfan Thanks, we hope to get there soon. You have me hooked a bit. I have been reading the world challenge rules. It is interesting to see the difference in the classes in the TC, TCA and TCB classes.

Really sick car. It's pretty crazy, I saw your orange gsr 228 drive up the street and turn in to my neighborhood in Irvine. What are the chances. The car sounded amazing and looked really solid. Nice work guys

Damn, nice setup, nice tuning, nice driving!
Man, makes me want to get a 228i and make it my weekend warrior without spending too much. Excellent work GSR!

GSR, your efforts are tempting/inspiring me to get a 228 and eventually make it trackable. The balance and weight of the car is the most appealing thing. Would the track package actually make a bad choice for modding to be a track car? (Variable steering ratio, adaptive suspension).
How much do you think having the premium package would disrupt the balance of the car? (Moonroof, power seats) I'd love to roll the fenders to get 275s on if it's not too difficult/expensive. I'm trying to consider future resale value of a likely DD as a luxury car vs a race car. Also if I keep the car a long time, simpler is better to me =) |

i honestly want a 99% daily driver that i can still have a blast with a couple times each year doing some lapping days in california along with some autocross here and there. i know yours is heavily modded, but from your perspective, do you think the m235i with LSD or the 228i with track pack would be better suited for this? thanks for your help and i love the car! if i end up building the car into a full track car, i know where to turn

I'm going to you folks when I get my 2! Loving all the updates! Please keep it going.
Can you run the EC 18x10s at the back without spacers given your current suspension setup? PS: Someone mentioned you have a Valencia Orange 2? Can you post photos of that as well? That's the color I'm looking into

GSR 228i at Bimmerfest
We will be running our 228i at the Bimmerfest track event at Auto Club Speedway this Saturday. If you attend, swing by and say high. We plan on beating up on some M cars.

I wish they still offered just the Sport brakes for $600. I think that is the most important thing as part of that package. If you are going to want to get a little bit more on the track you are going to have to upgrade the dampers so Adaptive M Suspension is a nice to have but not a dramatic difference on the track. Variable Sport Steering - eh not really needed - nice to have. I guess my recommendation is if you are going track the car I would save the money on the Track Handling Package and just build up a 228i as you want more out of the car. First things first, get some nice light wheels and some bigger rubber. Then get a diff, especially if you are going to do autocross. Don't get me wrong, the M235i is a nice package but it does come at a price. I think a properly setup 228i will smoke a M235i in autocross all day long just for the fact of better turn in under braking. IMHO Nick... |

LOL - M235i obviously has more upside. If we build our own version of what should have been - the S20, then all bets are off - 228 is smoking anything. |
