Thinking about switching from S4 to M235i
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I've owned BMWs most of my life but switched from my 07 E92 335i to my current 13' S4 as I did not like the new 3 series very much. I just drove a 435i M Sport and was not overly impressed. So I'm wondering is the M235i really as great as the reviews say? I've read that it's almost as fun as the E46 M3 (which I owned) and the E92 M3. My Father owns a 10' M3 so I've had lots of time behind the wheel. My current car has plenty of mods so it's far beyond a stock S4. Haven't had a chance to drive the M235i yet as my dealer in Indianapolis sells them before they come in. Anyone have much experience comparing it to the 435i or 335i? It will have to impress me a lot more than those two. If I make the switch there's no doubt I would be ordering a lot of the M Performance accessories with the car to be port installed. But is there a discount for that or do you get both the M Performance part, and the stock part? Thanks! |

I have an 13 S4 also and have a 235 on order. I loved the way the car drove. My s4 felt like a pig after the test drive. I also considered the 435 m sport, while its a nice car it didn't drive as well as the 235, mostly due to the 6spd not feeling that great in the 4.

I have a '12 S4, formerly drove an e92 M3 and an e46 M3. Driven the f30 335i and the 435i. The m235i is far better than the new 335i and the 435i. Is it better than e92 M3, e46 M3, or S4? No. You would think after being on this forum that the m235i is the best car BMW has ever made. It is not. It is good but don't go in expecting a M car and that special feeling you get from driving or even looking at a M car.
To be honest, at first I hated my s4. It felt really detached and soul-less. But the harder you drive it, the more it will grow on you and impress you. Two simple mods that really made a huge difference was getting lightweight wheels and putting on Michelin Pilot Super Sports (same tires that are standard on the m235i). IMO The m235i is a downgrade in class, practicality, and interior quality while not being an upgrade in performance. I'd save your money for a M4 or the new S4 when it comes out in a year or two. Of course ppl in this forum will disagree so best to just drive the m235i for yourself and see |

I already realize the M235i is a downgrade in terms of interior and luxury, as I already view the 435i as a downgrade in those aspects. I'm mostly interested in just how much fun it is to drive. Maybe I'm expecting too much and will be disappointed in how it compares to my S4 with sways, end links, and springs.
Seems like many say it drives amazingly well and a few were let down. Maybe expected too much going into the test drive? |
