m235i equipped with M Performance Exhaust - Standard!?

Figured I would post a page from the F22 technical book from BMW. The m235i is equipped (standard from factory) with a version of the M Performance Exhaust system.

It doesn't have the m performance exhaust as standard, it may have an exhaust tuned by m performance, but the m performance exhaust is a different part number, sound and tail pipe for sure

Yeah that document's version of "M Performance Exhaust" is basically just saying the exhaust is more of a performance version than that on the 228.

It's already been confirmed that there is an actual M Performance exhaust. It was shown at the Vegas track day and there were videos of the car starting and revving with it. It was definitely a different one compared to what comes with the car.

my point is, the M performance accessory exhaust is a WASTE of your money. If you are really interested in performance install a 3" catless downpipe.

Trust me it's not lol. The normal M235i exhaust (m or not) is too quiet. For me at least. I'll going for the m performance exhaust.

I just can't stand the cracking as it comes down. I mean I'm no expert, but I've never heard a highly respected exhaust with that sound. To me, something sounds broken, but again, prolly just me being a newb.

I understand. My 135 does the same thing and I kind of love it. But almost everyone thinks the car is broken.

The car I test drove wasn't a demo, they were actually going to sell it, so I was being nice to it (9 miles on the odometer when I took it for a spin) - so I wasn't able to make any reasonable conclusions...

Mine is supposed to show up in the next couple of days, so I will be able to listen in a lot better then.

The one I drove got a beating from the off. Dual carriage way and up to 90mph. Exhaust sounded fantastic to me

So you think they don't sell the demo cars?

I love the sound of my "stock" exhaust. Then again, I don't like drawing attention in my DD. That's what the vette is for!

Waste of money? LOL Some of us LIKE having a car without worrying about a voided warranty for installing a DP and not having to deal with dealer visits. Some mods are easily removed but a DP is not so I avoid them in a car valued at almost 50 grand...
That said the BMW Performance exhaust is way more aggressive than the M235i's exhaust and tone.... a little louder and much nicer IMO,,,,i hear it daily and notice how tame the M235i is compare(AFTER MY TEST DRIVE) to the one on my sons car..I had the BMW Performance exhaust installed on my 135i before I even picked it up at dealer,,,,Coming from a previous car with DP, Full cat back...which was way too loud and droney,,,and the dealer voided my warranty when it was time to check for a CEL becauser of my mods till I took the DP off.....Never again,,

I have a e92/n54 with PE and love the low rpm crackle (some call it a burble some call back fire.. dont know the diff but just like the sound). Anyway future plan to buy a M235 with PE and was wondering if the PE still pumps synthetic sound to speakers like the stock exhuast. This is one feature I dislike on the f22.Can coding disable this or do we have to cut some wires.. ?

I have owned 2 335is cars. Right now, I have an M235 to evaluate at home over the weekend. This exhaust, if it's M performance, is VERY disappointing. Way too subtle. I highly doubt that it is.

I loved the stock exhaust in the 335is and it was leaps and bounds better and more aggressive than the M235.

I won't buy M235 unless I can fit with a more aggressive exhaust from BMW performance

Fast forward to 9:00 for interior sound and 9:33 for exterior sound on the M-performance exhaust:

You also get a good look at all the other performance accessories

A full aftermarket exhaust is still the easiest want to get a turbo car tuned for more HP/TQ. Must be done right by people who know what they are doing so you don't get the engine malfunctions popping up. As an example I have a fully tuned WRX with turbo back exhaust (Cobb DP) and a ProTune for one the leading area tuners. Never a CEL or other problem in over year with it. Passes state emissions and dealership never questions the aftermarket performance parts with I bring it in for required service. Just make sure if you go this route you pay the money and get it done right. For $3000 investment I'm getting 70 more peak HP, 65 more TQ, and coming in 2200 rpms sooner than stock on the torque. Money spent well for me.
