Dynamic Brake Force Display

Picking up my daughter's 2017 230 xDrive tomorrow. I have an appointment with my coding guy right after. I noticed that he has the ability to enable "Dynamic Brake Force Display". What does that do on a North American F22's?

this... if you slam on the brakes they will flash instead of steady lit

OK thanks. Not liking that flashing thing so I'll cross that one of the list. I thought is was intensity. Thanks again for the heads up.

It's a good feature. People driving on the highway sometimes go into autopilot. Before they realize the traffic in front of them has stopped it's too late. The flashing catches the attention. Some other cars flash their 4 ways, has a similar effect. I used to manually hit my 4 ways under very heavy braking on the highway, especially in bad weather. I think it helps.

I'd leave it on your list.

It might keep her from getting rear ended.

If I have someone code in the emergency flashing brake feature, then when I take my car in for its yearly service at the dealer and they do diagnostic, will the dealer code out the flashing brake light feature ?

If this is your daughter's car, I'd definitely code this one on - can you really have too many safety features? Wish they came this way originally here in the states (boggles my mind that our regs inhibit this kind of stuff). Even better would be a quick strobe as they first come on, like you see on ambulances. And perhaps someday they'll also come out with one that can keep it from going over 70 when her boyfriend is driving it.

And thanks for clarifying, I'd thought it was just another dash display to tell you when it has augmented the braking force.

There is no reason to put it off the list. I think its worth keeping. the blinking will alert the dolt behind you. And when she is texting and has to nail the brake, the person behind her might react faster if the lights blink. just sayin.

Too late now. I'll have to get him to do it later. He updated the iDrive to Version 6. Very cool.

Thanks! She's a good kid plus I got my son a M235 last year and I loved that car. She appreciates it very much.

Thanks. She had a 2000 3 series convertible which was awesome but it was becoming a bit unreliable because of the age. This purchase was a result of her car breaking down coming off the highway. I could have fixed it but I need piece of mind when my wife and I are up at the cottage and therefore we put her in a 230 with xDrive which will add some extra safety during the winter. We were close at getting her a MB CLA 240 but the wife wanted to stay in the BMW Brand.

Piece of mind is worth more than anything else. Those MB CLA's are nice but not sporty enough for me. I think my high schooler may inherit my 228i when he heads off to college in a few years.

Lol. I did that with my eldest with a 325 Coupe when he heading into University. When he graduated and got a job I helped get him in the M235. He is "gradually" starting to pay us back...at least I got the license plate sticker renewal off him the other day.

I agree about the CLA 240. I felt it was a bit cheap in the interior / finishing, didn't like the layout of the dash (vents / buttons) and the biggest thing was the ride which didn't come close to the 230...that observation came from my daughter!

Not to mention that the styling team seemed to draw inspiration from a sea slug. The way the tail tapers down is hideous...looks like it's dragging its butt.

LOL. My wife said the same thing. I'm really happy with this purchase. Took it out for a first time ride this evening in the country. I never test drove the 230 because we had the M235. It's a different ride from the M235 and I seem to really like this 230...comfortable, quiet, and peppy. I say quiet because the M235 has the MPE, Dinan Chip and Dinan CAI.

I remember a really old-school flashing brake light setup for motorcycles. It used a series of mercury switches that were tilted at increasingly steeper angles, so as rate of deceleration increased, more of the switches made contact and the flash rate increased. Seems very crude today, but it worked!
