435 ZHP
So it appears that BMW will be releasing a limited run of the 435i with the ZHP package.
Puts the car at 335hp/332tq. Has the track handling package/limited slip diff, and M performance goodies from the start. My question is, is the boost in power purely from the M performance intake and M performance exhaust? Also wondering if we will be able to purchase said intake for our cars... http://www.bimmerpost.com http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1129221 In any case, curious how this car will compare to our cars (albeit be a very limited production run). He is interested in discussing how the cars compare with each other within this community.

Yeah but it's a 4 series, so you have to replace all those numbers with 4's. Lol!
Not sure why this in the 2 forums either way - but the answer to your question: This car has the M -PPK package which has been available on the F30/F32 for a while now. This is basically just a standard package that includes a bunch of the M performance goodies you can already buy, plus what look to be some new wheels. Would be interesting to see what kind of price cut you get for purchasing them "from the factory".

But I figured this would be an ok place to post the thread, as I am more curious on thoughts about how this will compare with our cars, whether it is the 4 series equivalent of the M235 etc. |

I own an 2003 ZHP (for 12 years since new) and I'm waiting for the re-delivery European Delivery M235i. The ZHP was a slightly tweaked E46, it was introduced when the M3 only had two doors. The prior gen e36 M3 came in both two and four doors. BMW opted for the ZHP with 4 doors to fill the niche left by those wanting a 4 door performance 3 series. The ZHP was a success and later added the option in 04 and 05 for the two door coupe. The ZHP was equal in performance to the e36 m3 but far more tame that the E46 M3. Likewise, I think BMW is trying to fill the niche between the 435i and m4. That seems to be their speciality, filling niches, these days.
The base price for a 330i in 2003 was $34,800, the ZHP option was $3,900, my car optioned with ZHP, Cold Weather, Zenons had a final price of $42,145. Surprising only $5k less than the European Delivery m235i. The 4 series is hulk compared to the E46 and more akin to the earlier 6 series. I firmly believe (by words and actions) that the M235i is the spiritual successor to the E46 330 ZHP because of size, performance and price point within the BMW line up. Does this new "ZHP" make me regret not getting the the M235i? Not one bit. I'll keep the extra $10k, better proportions and excellent overall balance and performance. |

Well it definitely begs the question why there isn't a "ZHP" M235i but I guess they don't want people's heads blowing up. If I could have gotten mine Euro delivered with a factory installed LSD, I would have opted for it.

BMW has too many numbers and badging and package codes going on (ZHP was a package code). Even though I love the ZHP name, I feel like for todays market... an M435i would've fit the bill a little better. But it's a very limited production run so I guess it doesn't matter much. The original E46 330i ZHP was made for the US Market because the US Market was the only place the 4-door E36 M3 had solid numbers in, so BMW threw us a bone - A bone I'm very thankful for because I came from a 330i ZHP and (even though the M235i is better in most ways) I still miss it to this day. |

In any case, I would imagine you could probably get the same dealer installed options on the M235i when you pick it up if you got the limited slip diff + MPE and MPI. |

The ZHP is the combining of all the performance options that are now ala carte into a single package. Mine has all but the front splitter, driveway issue, & the LSD.

I wish there will be BMW M Performance Engine Kit for every gas engine like 220i and 228i. In that case there will be no problem with warranty from BMW and you don't need to tune it somewhere else!

I thought the mppk for the 335/435/235 puts it at 320hp. This one is 335.

You're trying to say that there is no "base" 235i? Yeah, I know. The point I'm making is that the "package" given to the so-called throw back to BMW's roots of small, sporty coupes, is less in performance content than what they'll offer on a 4 series. Yes I know that I could buy all this crap wholesale, but a) I shouldn't have to if they really want this car to be what their marketing people say it is, and b) I'm not able to like the non-Euro delivery guys without eating the cost of a new differential to replace my lightly used stock diff. It's just games at this point. No reason for it. Porsche offers a super compelling package in their lower tier car and their halo car still sells like mad. BMW neuters anything below its halo M car on purpose to prevent cross shopping and potential loss of revenue on an upsell as if all the M4 shoppers actually give a crap about track numbers. Most M4 shoppers will buy the M4 even if the new M2 is ALMOST as quick on the track. That's because the M4 will carry a higher price tag, and those NOT in the know will see the increment in model number as a more expensive product anyway, and that's all that matters.

A la carte purchases of the MPI and MPE would be nice though, but given that the M performance intake for the 328 and 128 is almost $1000 I don't know how good of an option this will be over something like Dinan etc. |

435 ZHP:
- Exhaust "burble" sound during engine overrun conditions. The M Performance Power Kit ensures an optimized engine and exhaust system sound. The exhaust "burble" is enabled in Comfort mode and amplified even further in Sport mode. Can't we get a software update for exhaust "burble" enabled in Comfort mode for the m235i????? |
