Auto Opening Boot

So after watching a few vids etc.. I decided to do this mod.

Ordered the springs and fitted them today. Easy enough to do but snapped the head off the strut so had to glue/melt it together.
Anybody know if these can be ordered individually or is it a complete unit?

Observations are that the boot(trunk) is harder to shut and I do fear for the long term damage it may cause.
Also the boot doesn't fully open as per other models but lifts about halfway.

Anybody done this mod with better success?

Agreed. I'm grateful that the lid stays down and doesn't spring up by itself. At least that way, it's not obvious to everyone else that it's open and it still stays dry if it's raining.

Is the trunk opening itself a known issue?

In worried that if the catch is a little dodgy then me putting additional pressure on it might not be the best idea.

The issue is more the problem of sitting on the keys when in a pocket and when in range of the car and triggering the boot to open due to a key or something else in that pocket pressing on the buttons. If you have the key protector sleeve, this shouldn't be a problem.

Ah I see. Not really an issue as they're not in my pocket.

I think there is a way to reposition the spring to a different perch so it pops the trunk up; do a search in the subforums. No link to 'the mod' you mention but it sounds like an aftermarket add-on? Mine just barely shifts when opened, which is fine w/ me so I haven't tried this.

The mod I've done is basically fitting a pair of springs on the gas lifts so when the trunk is released its under greater pressure and thus lifts higher.
