Brake pad question
I was planning to replace the front and rear pad with Hawk HPS 5.0 pads.
Ordered hb765b.664 for the front When I took off the old pads, they have a "wing" on them that the new ones dont. Does this matter? See pic for reference See how one set has "wing" (in this case the rear) and the other doesnt |

The wings are not really necessary, and most performance oriented brake pads do not have them.
The purpose of the wings is to damp vibrations in the pad to help reduce noise. I haven't noticed any difference in that regard between pads with and without the wings, and I'm pretty sensitive to noises and vibrations. When I ran Ferodo DS2500 with no wings, similar to these HPS pads, they were as quiet as stock. (Not the same as my track pads, which squeal and rumble and thunk, but the wings wouldn't help them.) |
