Don't forget about Switzerland either, driving through just about any part of Switzerland is awesome, like being in a video game. Huge mountains everywhere, tunnels, roads right along huge lakes. Just spectacular.
Italy...well, can be a little scary
. Right of way is "whoever has the bigger vehicle and goes the fastest" and some of their mountain roads are so steep and narrow with no guard rails etc. that it is absolutely terrifying. Many people give up and turn around after starting up Northern Italian roads into the mountains.
