The seats would for sure be different, and the interior would be completely different leather.
I'm just not sure why there is any doubt. That would be like saying well you can get a 435i Msport with LSD from the port, why make an M4?
BMW left PLENTY of room for an M2. Maybe not engine wise, my guess is as good as anyone what they'd do with that. But M4 suspension parts, M-DCT, LSD, CF ect... those are all huge ticket items that have been left out of the M235i for a good reason.
