Google 'Mike Miller's Old School Maintenance Schedule' it provides a detailed of guide of what/when to service prior to the newer servicing schedules that BMW implemented.
FWIW I plan to change the oil at 1,200 as it is not that expensive and fairly easy to do yourself.
