Coolant Heater Return Line Burst

Hello,

Recently the heater return line on my 2007 e90 328xi bursted and poured 3/4 of my coolant onto the floor. Since home was 5 mins away, I patched it up with duct tape and zip ties and refilled with coolant I had in my car to bring it home safely... it bursted again once I parked in my lot.

I got the replacement part and am going to diy (P/N: 17127525870). Doesn’t look like a common problem to me as no one else documented the issue online. The heater return line connects from the bottom of the expansion tank > thermostat > heater core > transmission line. It is completely one line with a mix of rubber hoses attached to a plastic line.

The area that bursted was along the plastic line.. so my question is, was it my fault that this happened? Could’ve I have put unnecessary pressure into the coolant system? Or was it just bad luck on my part?
