The 338i vs. 235i argument is pointless. They are both very compelling cars. It's not like comparing a 1999 Camaro Z28 with it's glorious LS1 with a 1999 Camaro with it's (Oldsmobile) 3.8 V-6.
No doubt the N20 closed the performance gap in comparison to the N55, in comparison to the previous generation N52 to N54/5. Economy, power/torque curve ect is awesome.... but the N20 no doubt gave up some refinement to get there in terms of sound and possibly throttle response.... but 150lb less over the nose is sweet too...... ugh so many factors. Such a great time to be a bme guy... and awful as well with the lack of a 328i wagon with a stick....
