Weird statement if you say E30, skip E36 and add E46 to it.
The E36 is less modern than the E46 so with ditching all the electronics and such and it's closer to the E30 then any other BMW, then certainly an E36 is closer to it than an E46.
Unless you solely chose that based on the US engine. Then again you don't mention "M3".
