This is the same row that occurred when the 328i was lauded as the driving man's 3-series. The strength of the N20 makes it hard to justify the additional weight of the N55... until you put the pedal down.
It all comes down to what you want out of the car. If you want N55 levels of acceleration performance, then you go with the M235i. If you want a lightweight car with excellent turn-in response, you get a 228i with this "track handling package". Horses for courses, and all that jazz.
