But...they dinged it for (once again in late bimmers) steering, soft suspension and tires. To me the article basically says the 228i had every dynamic advantage but managed to under-deliver in the handling/feedback department enough so to give the win to the FWD A3? I recently drove a loaded 228i Msport with an 8speed and not only do I no longer care about the A3 I'm even considering giving up the 3rd pedal. It goes great and amazingly sounds great (fake?), is more comfortable and gets better mileage than my 128. The new GTI will be the cost effective/more practical front runner (4 doors would help)
Pricing/packaging BMWs has gotten really infuriating lately- tech pkg in order to stream music- really? Can't use the $ from a cheaper manually equipped car to purchase overpriced options, no more free red, no more free sunroof, man they just keep taking...they're really sticking it to the enthusiast on the tranny and it irks me.
