Different regions have FEDERALLY sanctioned fuel economy tests (they are NOT the same, so results from one region may not match that from another, plus, the vehicle may be tuned differently to account for local rules). BMW and other car manufacturers list the results of tests they DO NOT RUN FOR RECORD, or if they do run them, they must run them per the sanctioned procedure. Now, if you drove exactly like the test procedure called for, you'd likely get the same results. Don't know anyone that does that! If you want better fuel economy, drive slower and don't accelerate hard, and don't don't idle in traffic.
