We got all these three options as standard on UK M235i models. The cargo net is disproportionately useful. I had one as a retro-fit accessory on my previous 3 Series and would have ordered it on the 2 if it hadn't been included as standard.

The driver's-side small compartment is similarly useful e.g. for keys, wallet etc. that you may have in your hand when you sit down but don't want to just put down loose in the centre tray.

The seat backs are also useful for things like hi-vis jackets (mandatory in mainland Europe and useful if you break down), maps etc. as you can fairly easily reach behind the seat opposite.

One item I did retro-fit was the passenger footwell storage net. This is similarly so useful you wonder why it's not installed as standard. It's an oblong net which is fastened to the transmission tunnel side of the passenger footwell. It's reachable from the driver's seat and great for maps, directions and any smaller items.
