my bet is on the fact that this person is very insecure, and is trying to fool people into thinking he has/is something he is does/is not. The is the equivalent of someone wearing a fake Patek, or woman with a fake LV purse. Its 100% driven by insecurity.
You say its a "1st world problem" to me its not a problem at all, but rather entertainment.
