The M235i has more HP, sure, but the 228i is still the same platform. Some prefer the reduced weight and better balance. Have a look under the hood of a 228i the next time you're at the dealer. The engine damn near fits behind the strut towers. It's remarkable. This makes a noticeable difference in turn-in. I drove a 228i back to back with the M235i. I was always skeptical of the whole "N20 means less weight out front" arguments that occurred here on Bimmerpost, until I went and tried it for myself.

IMO, it all comes down to your priorities. I'd still find it hard to be without the extra go-power and sound of the N55, but I can see why someone would opt for the 228i in this trim.
