I would imagine the motors in the mirrors are pretty tough. I travel to Europe a good deal on business and I notice that the vast majority of mirrors are folded due to the tight parking. I think a feature that is a "nice to have" in the US is a daily usage item in Europe. If folding mirrors were breaking all of the time BMW would have significant issues in Europe.
