I drove both the m235i and the M4 and if you drove reasonably fast cars before, the m235i will feel unsatisfyingly slow, whereas the M4 feels quite decent in power. Moreover, the m235i is smaller but not much lighter if any. As with the gearboxes, there is absolutely no contest, the M4 DCT is worlds better than the 8-speed auto. Plus the m235i must be optioned withe the LSD if you want to use the available power for more of the time.

What I really don't like on the m235i is the lack of serious tuning capabilities for its N55 engine. The turbine is too small and the ECU is very hard to crack. If that would be possible, it would open a new world of possibilities.

Basically I would say the price difference is justified.
