I am in the camp that happens to like the ASD in my 228i. The car is really quiet without it. That being said the cars transmission is allot smoother driving around town in Comfort Mode, which is much more quiet. The transmission in Sport is smooth too, but smoothest with spirited driving. I think the idea is a good one. You get to hear the exhaust note without the whole neighborhood having to hear it.
