is an interesting choice. If it's the ZF8 in there, that's really amazing, because auto transmissions don't typically take well to motorsport abuse, even with additional cooling. I would have expected the 6MT.
Are we certain it isn't a race gearbox wired up to the paddles? That would seem an expensive swap, considering that these are production cars, but transmission failures are a huge part of motorsport when you're driving on production parts.
EDIT: This guy says Germany (presumably BMW) already told him it's an 8-speed ZF. Pretty remarkable. I bet the transmission cooler is as big as the intercooler
