This is the real reason.
BMW will be late to the game which is being led by CLA and A3.
To save face they come up with the idea that they weren't in it to begin with. 1-2 yrs later 2 GC arrives.
OTOH I hope this wasnt said to push sales of the FWD 1 sedan or 2 active tourer
