A: It's a normal N55 engine, but receives an enforced camshaft (cast iron was replaced by steel), adjusted software engine mapping, and improved cooling system.
BMW has been making some internal changes to the N55 engine as it ages. There are more variations coming in the pipeline.

Honestly, I think we are just about to the point (if we aren't there already) of rigidity being a diminishing return when it comes to handling.
