It doesn't need it. A ZF 8 speed with the BMW sport automatic program is better than any DCT I've driven, this includes my '14 M5. I'm not trying to say that DCTs are bad by any means. It's just that the ZF 8 speed is that good. look at the acceleration and EPA numbers, it's faster and more efficient than the 6 speed manual. At the same time it's has a smoother initial and takeoff and gear changes than are possible with a DCT. The only advantage I see with the DCT is slightly faster gear changes. If you were using it as a drag racer and thousandths of a second mattered... maybe the DCT would be better.
