S55 over a tweaked N55 any day. The only reason (other than maybe cost) to use the N55 would be to avoid stepping on the M3/4 toes. N/A would be nice, but isn't going to happen.
At the end of the day, though, it doesn't really matter what the engine looks like as long as it performs. What I want is great throttle response and even power delivery. Ideally, it would have a flat torque band all the way to redline rather than the usual tapering torque band of production turbo engines.
