It wouldn't be a terribly cheap way to go about it, but I have half a mind to buy the BMW hitch, take the removable section, torch the ball off and weld on a 1-1/4" square HSS section. I have no intention of towing anything, so it wouldn't need to be terribly substantial, just enough for a Thule 2-bike rack and a couple road bikes.
I really would like to avoid putting a roof rack on if I can avoid it.
