I think V8 is not choice, because hierarchy between other models, bigger series must mean bigger engine. And I think most European Bmw enthusiast take Na I6. Also I think that I6 screaming exhaust noise and awesome intake noise belongs compact M2 size car more than V8.

I think still that there might be little possibility, that they considering naturally aspirated choice. Porsche is good example, think back that 997 turbo use same basic layout that Gt3 models, so it is possible even on small production numbers. M2 also will be ligher than M3, lighter means less fuel consumption and turbocharging might be not necessary, of course hybrid technology come also cheaper. Porsche 918 spyder 70g/km is incredible accomplishment.
