Weight reduction was "not one of the goals". The current 328i is heavier than the old one. Only the 335i is
slightly lighter than the old one.
Had weight reduction been a serious goal, they wouldn't be using a 2L aluminum block turbo four over a magnesium/aluminum block NA 6.
