Production of the
2 Series Coupe officially begins today at BMW's Leipzig plant, which also builds the X1, F20/F21 1 Series and the i3 electric car (i8 will also be produced at the same plant in 2014). BMW has announced that the market launch date for the 2 Series is March 2014 and its world public debut will come at the 2014 Detroit auto show in January.
Initially, up to 720 2-Series will be produced per day, but that figure may be increased if needed. So far, the 2 Series lineup includes M235i, 228i, 220i, 225 and 225d coupes. The 2 Series convertible will join the lineup next year.
Meanwhile, some M235i preproduction models were recently spotted in public. This white M235i coupe was spotted in New Jersey by BIMMERPOST member manoloo and the red M235i in Leipzig by an
Autogespot member.
