Anyone who drives performance tires in cold weather is looking to suffer the fate of Darwinism..
I'm not a huge fan of all season tires, but with Xdrive they do an ok job..Certainly not winter rubber well - but my all seasons got me through two rough winters so far with Xdrive.
I knew I wasn't going to keep this X3 any longer than I had to - so never sprung for a winter set-up and stuck to the all seasons.
Ideally (for me) its Xdrive with a dedicated performance vs winter set of rubber/wheels..
Many of us in the upper snow belt are willing to make some of the balance, weight trade-offs for better stability over the 5 months of winter..
Again I'll say - glad bmw is giving people choices..
They're also smart- I'll bet 40% + of their biz up here is going to be Xdrive on the 2'er..Thats probably business they'd never have gotten with just RWD..
