My opinion is that the 2er isn't going to be a giant leap in terms of price compared to the 1er. I don't think the gap is so huge that the 2er is all of a sudden not an entry level BMW in the US.

my point wasn't that the 2er won't be 'entry-level'. it was that the cla and the 2er were designed with different audience in mind. BMW tends to get some of the younger demographic as it is. Mercedes is trying hard to suck new customers in. I think it's a given that the 228i will jump the 320i price-wise (they will market it as more premium than the old 1er coupe).
