I enjoy working on my own car.....but when its new and under warranty I tend to try to not give the manufacturer/dealer the opportunity to deny my claim for anything

So in my case I'll likely give my dealership the opportunity to earn an additional sale by asking if they will match price on part other dealerships sell it for then talk about install price

If they come REALLY close then I'm happy to give them my busines

If they are hundreds of dollars off then I'll go elsewhere.....but the ball is in their court...ymmv.....I want the dealer on my side....and in all of the vehicles I've owned this has worked well for me
Surprised this thread is longer than the stickied thread in the Powertrain subforum.

It is a simple job, but based on what I've seen, you may need a special BMW tool to do it.

You could probably use a pry bar to get it out. You'd destroy a plastic shield in the process but it's no big deal. I'm not sure how easy it would be to get the CV axles back into the differential. ISTAD seems to say you need special part 33 5 125, but I'm curious whether you can just "shove" it back into place.
