If the amber light is on, it means the Start-Stop is deactivated. The engine won't turn off at stops. If the amber light is off, it means Start-Stop is activated and may turn off at stops if the computer feels like it. It's easy to check the behavior. Turn on your car. Press the button until the amber light turns on. Turn the car off. Restart the car. Is the light still on? That means the car remembers the last setting. In my car, for example, the light will always be off when I start the car.
