It also depends on the price point of the M2. If it's miles ahead of RS3 and A45 in overall terms there is no reason why it has to stay at £40k - it's an M car proper after all.

The 4 series and M2 will be aimed at two different markets as well. You buy an M car for a reason.

I expect if BMW get round to it the Sub-M range toppers of 3/4 series they will be diesels anyway. Even if no MP models come the current 335d and predicted 435d range toppers are aimed at different people to the M3 and M4, and the suspected M2.
